Do's & Don'ts
Some guidelines are common to all states of India and these should be followed to enjoy fully. For example, your travel arrangements should be made well in advance, especially if you are traveling between October- March (high tourist season) and May- June, the Indian holiday season. Travel facilities are limited in relation to demand so prior bookings are a must.
Follow the following tips and enjoy your travel:
» If traveling by air, you should include one or more trips by rail or road so that you can experience rural India. When planning your trip, ask your travel agent to include an Indian fair or festival in your itinerary.
» Witnessing the color and gaiety of these events is a great experience.
» Bank upon government trained and approved tourist guides only for sightseeing.
» Carry your own mineral water bottles which are easily available at retail shops
» Bring your own medicines, since all medications in India are locally manufactured and you may not find the same brand names.
» Travel with a camera and a color film.
» Remove your footwear when entering a temple or other place of worship
» Shop from government recognised shops as these offer products at reasonable price and sure for quality.
Things to be avoided
» Don’t accept any eatable item from any stranger.
» Avoid wayside foods and drinks
» Don’t give alms to beggars
» Try to avoid giving tips as you will find people asking tips from foreigners for each and every service they offer like laundry, etc
» Tourists are warned that changing money through unauthorized persons is not only illegal but also involves the risk of receiving counterfeit currency.
